Countdown to RSL

Welcome to the on-line home of Radio Fox, the radio station especially for the Leicester Royal Infirmary and the Glenfield Hospital.

Our members broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the patients and staff of the two hospitals. We can offer daily request shows, specialist programmes to suit most tastes, extensive weekend sports coverage and general interest shows that aim to play more of your favourite music, more of the time.

We hope you enjoy browsing our new look website, which includes news, features and information about your number one station in hospital - Radio Fox.

Nine years after our first FM broadcast Radio Fox is returning to the airwaves to celebrate our 20th birthday. Radio Fox has been licensed by OFCOM to broadcast for twenty eight days to Leicester and surrounding areas on 107.5FM, giving listeners outside the Royal and the Glenfield the opportunity to hear our programmes.

The RSL (Restricted Service Licence) begins at 6am on Saturday May 10th when Matt Dobson takes the hotseat for the Saturday Breakfast Show, and ends with a very special programme between 7 and 9pm on Friday June 6th. In between you can enjoy the shows which are normally only heard by the patients and staff of the Royal and the Glenfield, which include request programmes, specialist shows, sports coverage and plenty of entertainment.

In addition to showcasing our own programmes Radio Fox 107.5FM will also include interviews with the staff and volunteers who work at the two hospitals we broadcast to, and there will be plenty of opportunities for you to call or email us to request your favourite song.

Station Director Steve Hack says that the RSL will be a great opportunity for listeners to hear what hospital radio really sounds like. “Although everyone at Radio Fox is a volunteer we strive to make our programmes as entertaining and professional as we can. During our first RSL in 1999 many listeners commented on our friendliness and the variety of music we played. I hope those listeners will enjoy hearing us back on FM again and that our broadcast will encourage others to get involved in hospital radio.”

Make sure your radio is set to 107.5FM on Saturday 10th May!

*Full details of our programmes during the RSL will appear on this website shortly.

As part of our 20th birthday celebrations we are interviewing a number of former Fox members about their time with the station.

We would love to have a chat with Nigel Dobson, our first Station Director, but have unfortunately been unable to find any contact details. Nigel, if you're reading this, please could you contact the current Station Director Steve Hack via the website - and apologies for the unusual way of trying to get in touch!

Following our success at this year's HBA Awards, the Radio Fox team are preparing to celebrate our 20th birthday on April 23rd in style.

Final preparations are being made for a day of special programmes with the fun starting at 6am in the morning and not finishing until 10 in the evening.

Amongst the shows confirmed so far are a sporting afternoon with Matt & Dean, who will be looking back at Leicester City and the Tigers achievements over the last twenty years. There's also The True Adventures Of Radio Fox, an hour long documentary celebrating our twenty years on air and featuring archive clips and interviews with members past and present.

Bill Jones is promising to bring a psychic into the studios to make a few predictions for the next twenty years and Steve Hack will be hosting a birthday coffee morning from 10am. He'll be chatting to some famous past members of the station. Guests confirmed so far will be former Leicester Sound star and current Peak FM breakfast host Sean Goldsmith, who started his radio career at Fox and is joining us on the phone for a chat. Honorary member Steve England, now living in South Africa, is also going to be phoning in.

In the evening the whole Fox team will be bringing you the Big Party, featuring our biggest prize giveaway ever, plenty of fun and a very exciting announcement at 8.30pm. Details will be released on this website after it's announced on air - it is well worth waiting for as it continues our birthday celebrations in style!

Keep checking the website for further details of our birthday celebrations and an indepth look at the history of Radio Fox.
